Here we go!
Welcome to the start of a new program year at St. John's! And this Sunday will be a VERY fun and exciting start to the program year.
First off, it is a Mustard Seed Sunday—so kids will be invited to join in the Gospel procession, sit with me at the chancel steps for the sermon, and join the other ministers at the altar for the Great Thanksgiving. It's always great to have the kids at the central points of our liturgy, reminding us of our Lord who taught us that, just like the mustard seed, sometimes the smallest things in the kingdom are actually the mightiest!
As the start of the program year, it is also time for our Blessing of the Backpacks. So kids are invited to bring their backpacks (or other sign of their learning) with them to church for a special blessing. Sunday school, Rite 13, and J2A teachers will also be blessed—along with any of those who teach as a profession. So come along! (And Reyna is still in need of a few volunteers to help with the Rite 13 and J2A youth programs—no experience needed, just a passion for our teenagers developing a healthy sense of God and self! Contact her for more information.)
Also, at the 8:30am liturgy, we will be welcoming parishioner Deb West into the confirmation process. We already welcomed those going through this process who attend the 10:00am liturgy and it will be wonderful to celebrate this step in Deb's life and bless her with our prayers.
At the 10:00am liturgy, we will be welcoming Parish Administrator Cindi Sanders back from her sabbatical. After the liturgy, we will honor her at coffee hour and share our gratitude for her return.
The Spanish liturgy returns to its normal time of 12:45pm and that's not all….
The afternoon is our annual Worship Minister Workshops!
- 3:30pm – Acolytes
- 4:30pm – Readers
- 5:00pm – Eucharistic Ministers
- 5:30pm – Altar Guild
- 6:00pm – Ushers
This will be a great year at St. John's—come and be a part of it!
