From the Rector
The Rev. Dr. Jared C. Cramer, SCP
As we move into the summer months, with restrictions beginning to ease in our state and optimism for treatments and vaccines growing, perhaps (like me!) you are itching to know the way forward from here.
This past Monday we had a very productive conversation with members of the Vestry and the Parish on a plan for re-opening St. John's. Using the diocesan guidelines for a phased reopening, we had a careful and thoughtful conversation about how we might begin a slow reopen of our parish building and ministries.
The resulting Draft to Plan to Re-Open the Building looks carefully at the various considerations we need to give as a community of faith to ensure that when we do re-open our sacred space we do so faithfully, with particular concern for those who are most at risk from this contagious and deadly virus. If you have any suggestions for the plan, please click here to share them with me. Your suggestions (along with your name) will be given to the Vestry for consideration as they make final edits and hopefully approve the plan at their meeting on Monday, June 29. To help get your feedback to them in time, please submit it to me no later than Wednesday, June 24.
And remember, we will celebrate a bit some of the joy of our parish community tomorrow, Friday, June 5, with a special kick-off to summer talent show: our first-ever Summer Follies. At the end of the Follies, you'll be invited to vote online for your favorite act. Then, the winning act of the night will get to choose the ministry at SJE to which everyone makes the donation of their choice! Submit your video to me no later than today, Thursday, June 4, along with what ministry at SJE you'd like to bless to be included (ministry options online here)!
PS ~ Remember that adult Faith Formation continues this Sunday at 11:30am with a special series taught on Zoom by Father Cramer, "An Introduction to the Hebrew Bible." You can catch up by viewing previous handouts, all of which contain links to videos of the prior sessions online here. Find out more at the Facebook event online here and be sure to click here and join us on Sundays! You can also let me know if you want to be added to the email group and receive information in advance about suggested reading and then a copy of the slides afterwards.
