Mission & Outreach Commission
The goals of the Mission & Outreach Commission are to ease life's sufferings and foster an increase of love and compassion with those that are in need.
Thrift Shop
Our Thrift Shop is located in the lower level of the church. Hours are Wednesdays 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Many area non-profit organizations helping to meet the needs of the community benefit from Thrift Shop sales. We depend on donated items and many hours of help from our dedicated volunteers. The Thrift Shop is a very successful mission & outreach project supported by St. John's.
Loving Spoonfuls
St. John's is the only church in the Tri-Cities area that offers a soup kitchen each week. Our soup kitchen is staffed each week by volunteers from St. John's. Loving Spoonfuls is open every Sunday serving clients from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. September through May, and noon to 1:00 p.m. June through August.
Food Pantry
Our Food Pantry is located on the landing of our Sixth St. entrance. The Pantry is another ministry of our Mission & Outreach Commission and is stocked with food and supplies through direct contributions from parishioners and through monetary donations from parishioners. The items in the Food Pantry are distributed to needy families in our community as well as to Love, INC.
Book Stall
Newcomers to St. John’s may be interested to know that the Book Stall has been an active ministry since the middle 1960’s. The Unit itself was given to St. John’s by Gordon Laughead, Jr. for the purpose of using it for recycling books. The Stall is located next to the coatroom. The instructions for its use are listed above the books. All money collected is directed to the Building Fund.
New and used books are all donated. Donated books are placed in the bottom drawers or left in a container next to the Unit. Your donations are what keeps the ministry popular and we thank all the generous donors of books and the buyers for their continued support.
Fellowship & Newcomers Commission
This commission sponsors events during the year that provide an opportunity for fellowship within the parish. Also, this commission assists the rector in contacting and welcoming newcomers to St. John's.
Finance Commission
The Finance Commission is responsible for creating, recommending, and overseeing an annual operating budget. This commission also reviews the church's long term financial strategies.
Health & Wellness Commission
We strive to be aware of the health needs of our congregation, to provide information, and to support our parish members. It is our goal to assist parishioners, individually or collectively, in obtaining a highter state of wellness--be it in body, mind or spirit.
Property Commission
The Property Commission is responsible for the upkeep and mainteance of the buildings and grounds of the church. This commission also organizes work bees for painting and other mainteance activities.
Reception Commission
This commission organizes receptions for weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other special occasions.
Stewardship Commission
Our Stewardship Commission launches our Every Member Canvass each year and continues to work all year round on the importance of the stewardship of our time, talent, and treasure.
