Church History

Our church is the oldest house of worship in the Grand Haven area, founded in 1866.  The cornerstone of our church was laid May 10, 1869 and the first services were conducted in this building in 1870.  It is interesting to note that the lot on which the church was erected cost $400 and the original rectangular building and furnishings were purchased for $6,000.  Following a damaging fire in 1877, the church was remodeled to provide a more Gothic appearance.

The goal of our 1995/96 building expansion program was to preserve the original appearance of the 1869 historic structure.  After completion, our seating capacity went from 125 to 350.  The exposed beams and ceiling woodwork, as well as similar lanterns and wall trim, replicated that of the original building.  Five new stained glass windows are so similar to the old windows that many are unable to identify them from the old.  The organ moved to the north end of the church and has been completely remodeled and updated to a solid state system.  We have also added a ramp making the altar area handicapped accessible and an air conditioning system.
